10 Things to Do Following the Wedding

Following a marriage, there are many other jobs to consider. Unfortunately, women often have the taxing job of having to embark upon the mission of changing their name. Whilst it is not compulsory to change your maiden name to your married name, many of us continue with the tradition to symbolically represent the unification of the two people.

Given that most of us are exhausted following our wedding, we have compiled a list of 'things to do' so you don't have to think about it too much.
1. Ensure that all marriage documents have been registered with Births, Deaths and Marriages registry.
2. Apply for a copy of your marriage certificate from the Births, Deaths, and Marriages registry. An application form can be obtained online at http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/16.htm . Your name cannot be changed without producing a certified copy of your marriage certificate.
3. Send Thank You cards to family and friends who attended your wedding and provided a gift.
4. Review wedding photos and choose photos to print.
5. Send copies of photos to family and friends.
6. If you have not previously lived together, make arrangements for the move into your new home. Ensure that you have the telephone and electricity connected prior to entering your new home.
7. When you have obtained a copy of your marriage certificate, you can commence changing your name with the following:
· Banks and financial institutions
· Drivers licence
· Department transport eg: car registration etc
· Centrelink or Family Assistance
· Medicare
· Medical health Insurance
· Documents pertaining to loans, grants etc
· Superannuation
· Any memberships, e.g. gym, union etc.
· Employer
· Inland Revenue (obtain your reference and address from your employer)
· Australian Tax Office
· Local Authority (to change council tax and voting records)
· Doctor
· Dentist
· Passport Office
· Credit Card and Store Charge-Card Companies
· Finance/Loan Companies (cars, household goods etc.)
· Investment Companies
· Companies that you have shares in (the name of the registrars should be on your certificates or paperwork)
· Utilities (gas, electricity, telephone
· Mobile Phone company
· Insurance Companies (motor, medical, life, buildings & contents, pets etc.).
· Mail-Order catalogue companies.
· Motoring Organisations (breakdown organisations)
· Professional Institutes and Bodies
· Clubs, Societies and Associations
· Solicitors, financial advisers etc.
· Internet Service Provider (if your e-mail address incorporates your old name, you may wish to change your e-mail address)
· Magazine subscriptions
8. If you plan on keeping your dress, it is a good idea to have it professionally dry cleaned and appropriately stored.

9. If you wish to keep your bouquet, you can have it dried and framed as a keep sake.
10. If you would like to formally say thank you to those in your bridal party, and close friends and relatives, you can consider the option of a wedding lunch or dinner.
